The achievement of CCIE certification is a process that can be divided into two different phases:

- Obtaining the access to the lab section by completing the CCIE written test
- Achievement of the CCIE certification by completing the Lab test

The achievement of the CCIE written qualification, a part from the permission to access the LAb test, involves the renewal of the lower level certifications related to that specialization.
The CCIE Written test is also required to renew the whole CCIE certification , which has a biannual relevance.
